Driven by the explosive growth of AI technology over recent years, audio transcription is experiencing an unprecedented wave of innovation. One of the latest stories in the saga is that instant messaging WhatsApp will soon offer its new voice note transcription capability to Android users. Available to a select group of iOS faithful for just over a year, the feature enables users to automatically transcribe voice notes into text, in just a few seconds.

It is easy to imagine how handy this could be for the everyday user. Rather than leave a meeting to listen to what seems an urgent voice note from your child, boss or spouse, you can simply hit the transcribe button and read it as you would any other message. And there are other less obvious but equally important benefits. For instance, individuals who are hard of hearing could participate more actively in group chats where voice notes are frequently exchanged. Given the use of WhatsApp and similar messaging apps is prevailing across more and more sectors every day, this could have a considerable impact on the employment prospects of the deaf community.

But it is not only messaging apps that are changing the way we work. Faster, more reliable, and accurate transcription technology is already having a profound impact on many of the world’s most established industries, from the courtroom to the classroom. Chances are you will have already interacted with some form of transcription technology in your workplace. If not, it seems only a matter of time – especially if you work in the vast and ever-evolving financial industry. At least, that’s our conviction. But we want to hear from you.
